Sacrament of Spring
Heavy with hibernation and eye-blink, I
flatten dewy baby green blades. I wonder
why my silver-tipped bear hair belongs herein the glorious garden of fresh bursting pear
blossoms, where even branches birth red tender
shoots, newborn fists opening in innocentpraise. Light and rain and life! they cry, reach
to suckle sunshine. My hip scoffs, grumbles
an unwelcome antiphon. But you too, whispera thousand verdant buds on rejoicing hills
—you too! Fragrant roses draw, tumble me
on knees in invitation to inhale incense, cinnamon crescendo, cardamom of angels.
Goldfinches swell the song—You too too too.
You new new new. Sight and sound andscent of the sacrament of spring surge into
my heart, a living lightning strike of joy, kiss
electric, sparking blooms unknown to beginLaura Reece Hogan reads, California Match Girl

2021 Erotic Reading - Personal Paradise online
2021 Erotic Reading - Personal Paradise online
–
February 14, 2021hosts: Laura-Anne Bosselaar, Mariano Zaro and Marsha de la O
If a separate personal Paradise exists for each of us, I reckon mine must be irreparably planted with trees of words the wind silvers like poplars, by people who see their confiscated justice given back, and by birds that even in the midst of the truth of death insist on singing in Greek and saying, ‘eros, eros, eros.’

Each year the Erotic Reading is a touching, funny, intimate, sexy time. This year, of course, we’re virtual. We love sharing the joy with poets from three counties and beyond.
Each year we ask for $10, or any larger amount you choose. All monies are tax deductible and go directly to the Ventura County Poetry Project. This is our only fundraiser, and all our projects are funded entirely by donations.
We’re a busy crew, expanding readings to Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park, as well as Oxnard and Ventura, and forging partnerships with CSUCI and CLU. We have sponsored poetry contests in libraries throughout the county, and have sent social justice online poetry videos out into the world.
If there’s any way you can donate more, please do. Donations can be made by going to our website: vcpoetryproject.org and clicking on donate. https://vcpoetryproject.org/donations/ Checks should be made out to Ventura County Poetry Project and sent to VC Poetry Project, 1296 Placid Ave, Ventura, 93004.
